Bara bus accident: One dead, 42 undergoing treatment

BARA, Sept 16: A tragic bus accident on Sunday night has claimed the life of one person  and left 42 others injured. 


The accident occurred on Sunday night, when  the bus (Na 8 Kha 1164) en route to Dang from Biratnagar met with an accident at the Unasi Bridge on the East-West Highway in Bara.

The deceased has been identified as Chetan Raya Yadav, 45, a resident of Deukhuri, Gatwa Rural Municipality-5, Dang. According to Mahendra Khadka, superintendent of police (SP) of Bara, Yadav died during treatment on Monday morning.


The passengers who sustained serious injuries are identified as bus driver Bhola Bahadur Bhandari of Sarada Municipality-3, Salyan; co-driver Krishna Bahadur Budhathoki of Tulsipur Municipality-5, Dang;  Ima Ram Sunar of Sarumairani Rural Municipality-3, Pyuthan; Sonu BK of Bheri Ganga Municipality-11, Surkhet; Rom Bahadur Raut, of Arghakhanchi.  SP Khadka said that the seriously injured people are receiving treatment at Vayodha Hospital, Birgunj.


Police suspect that the accident may have occurred after the bus lost a wheel, became uncontrollable, and fell ten meters off the bridge. There were 43 people  including the driver and co-driver in the bus.


The injured are currently receiving treatment at Vayodha Hospital, Birgunj. Among the 42 injured, 15 are in moderate condition and 20 are in stable condition.
