LAHAN, March 8: Life in various parts of Siraha district has been affected by the general strike called by the United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) to protest the killings of protesters in Saptari on Monday. 

The UDMF cadres on the second day of the general shutdown today have been demonstrating by burning tyres in various parts of the district since morning. 

Major business hubs and markets, including Lahan Bazar, as well as education institutions and industries have remained closed while vehicles on short and long routes have stayed off the road. 

Meanwhile, police have released 13 UDMF cadres who were arrested yesterday while they were enforcing shutdown in various thoroughfares and markets in the district, according to the Area Police Office, Lahan. 

Among the released cadres are Satya Narayan Yadav, Krishna Bahadur Yadav, Raju Gupta, Prayag Lal Yadav and Ramnath Pandit among others. 

A clash ensued between the security personnel and demonstrators at Lahan had resulted in the death of four demonstrators in Saptari. The incident occurred when the UDMF cadres attempted to obstruct a mass meeting organized by the main opposition CPN-UML on Monday. RSS
