DARCHULA, June 29: Collecting yarshagumba (a caterpillar fungus) is a major income source for the people of the high hills in western Nepal. In Darchula, the locals of five rural municipalities are fully dependent on yarsha collection for their living. Not only men and women but also school children and sometimes even pregnant women make it to the yarsha pockets in the mountainous zones for collecting yarsha.
DARCHULA, May 22: Residents of Darchula villages bordering Mahakali River continue to use tyre tubes to cross the river even though a suspension bridge over the river was completed six months ago. The suspension bridge that connects Nepal and India and is situated in Lekam Rural Municipality – 3 of the district is yet to come into operation.
DARCHULA, June 8:Nepali migrants and locals continue to suffer ill treatment and humiliation at the hands of Indian Border Security Force (SSB) personnel at border points near Darchula district headquarters Khalanga due to the Nepal government’s apathy toward raising the issue with Indian authorities in their bilateral discussions.

DARCHULA, Feb 10: The 30 MW Chameliya Hydroelectric Project started generating electricity from Saturday. The project which saw several cost variations, controversies and frustrations over delays has now been connected to the national grid, nearly 11 years after works started in January, 2007. The peaking run of river project, which can generate minimum six hours in full capacity, was supposed to complete in May 2011. The project started for a regional balance in electricity generation is believed to be a landmark in Province 7.
