LAHAN, September 7: Not many candidates get chance to get elected thrice to the reputed post of mayor. Lagan Lal Chaudhary of Lahan-1, who was twice appointed as mayor during the Panchayat regime, made it to the same post again during the multi-party democratic system post 1990. With a hope of claiming the same post once again, Chaudhary has filed for his candidacy in the upcoming third phase of elections too.

SAPTARI, Sept 1: Dhiwaga village in Saptari would be popularly called a ‘food zone’ due to its abundant production of food grains. Over the years, the small village with around 1,000 households was gradually shrinking. Floods every monsoon and the changing course of the nearby Belan river was taking its toll on the land. This impacted the production of rice, maize and wheat in Dhiwaga. According to the locals, all their land have now turned into a desert.

Concerned authorities do not seem to care or do anything to stop the contractors from delivering such poor roads. However, in a rare incident, locals of Golbazar of Siraha district have brought an ongoing road blacktopping to a halt citing its poor construction quality.
SAPTARI, July 10: During Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba Friday's visit to flood hit areas in Saptari district, former Minister for Irrigation, Umesh Yadav complained to him of massive embezzlement in the construction of embankment and demanded investigation into it. In response, the PM pledged to form a parliamentary committee to look into the matter.

SIRAHA, June 1: Sixty-three years old Gauri Saday of Sakhuwanankarkatti Rural Municipality is compelled to live a miserable life in her old age. Gauri, who can't even move from one place to another without a stick has no one to look after her. She has visited the rural municipality office many times seeking government allowance, but she always returns home empty-handed. “You are not going to get the allowance until you build a toilet in your house,” the officials of the rural municipality always tell her.
