Australian Embassy funds seven projects

KATHMANDU, Oct 21: The Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Susan Grace, on Friday signed agreements with seven different organizations to provide support worth Rs 9.48 million (AUD 126,423) for several development activities.



"The Embassy, under its Direct Aid Program 2011-12, has funded projects in health and sanitation, education, and media development," said a statement issued by the embassy on Friday. [break]



The recipients of this year´s assistance include Nepal Network for Cancer Treatment and Research, Nepal Eye Program, Tilganga Institute of Opthalmology, Shree Achane Higher Secondary School, Dhading, Himalayan Rescue Association, Kathmandu, Siddhi Memorial Foundation Bhaktapur, National Media Development Center Kathmandu and Kumbeshwar Technical School Lalitpur.



The embassy said the Australian government has announced an estimated Rs 2 billion in official development assistance to Nepal in 2011-12.
