“We have started production and distribution of Advance brand of cement from our new plant in Jitpur,” Bijaya Kumar Nidhi, general manager of Araniko Cement, told Republica. “Our old plant at Abukhaireni will also produce Advance brand of cement in the near future”

Araniko Cement has introduced Advance brand of cement with the slogan ´Advance cement always safe´.

Nidhi said Araniko Cement will produce five million sacks (of 50 kg each) of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) every year from both the plants. He further added that the factory has close circuit and fully-automatic grinding unit based on German technology, experienced human resource and international standard lab.

“We are confident that our product will be of international standard. We have already initiated the process to acquire Nepal Standard (NS) quality certification,” said Nidhi.

Major cities in the country, including Kathmandu, and big development projects are the potential buyers of Advance cement, according to Nidhi.

Thanks to rise in domestic production, country´s cement import dropped by 25 percent to Rs 3.47 billion during the fiscal year 2011/12 compared to the figures of 2010/2011. Similarly, the country imported clinker worth Rs 6 billion during the period.

Sill, local production meets only around 40 percent of total domestic demand. Nepal imports cement from countries like India and Bhutan. There are around three dozen cement factories in the country, but only a few of them produce clinkers on their own.

The cement industry drew fresh investment of around Rs 11 billion in fiscal year 2011/12.
