Likewise, they vandalized a higher secondary school in Dang and a college in Jhapa for defying today’s nationwide shutdown of education institutions. The student body has demanded that they should be allowed to open student unions in private colleges, too.
A few days ago, ANNISU-R activists torched a bus belonging to the Valley-based Golden Gate college after the college refused to allow the opening of student union there. The Association of Private Educational Institutions, Nepal (APINE), the network of private schools and colleges, closed all schools and colleges across the country in protest of trying to drag politics into academic institutions.
A meeting of concerned stakeholders is scheduled for 4 pm at the education ministry. The meeting is being held following the ministry’s public appeal for doing away with strikes in the education field and its call for resolution of the differences through dialogue, Mahashram Sharma, spokesperson for the ministry, said.
