MYAGDI, Nov 13: An organization called Animal Nepal has shown interest in rescuing horses stranded in the base camp of Dhaulagiri Himal for the past 39 days.
Radha Gurung, the organization's communication officer, said that after the news was published in Nagarik Daily and Republica, the organization coordinated with the relevant agencies and local people for rescuing the stranded horses.
Horses wait for rescue since 38 days in Dhaulagiri Base Camp
"We have started an initiative to rescue the stranded horses. Horses used for transportation should be rescued through the trekking agency. We will also coordinate with the ministry," said Gurung. She also said that horses and hinnies cannot be used for transportation up to the high Himalayan region.
There are two live horses near a pile of dead horses and hinnies at the base camp of Dhaulagiri mountain. When the climbers and tourists reached the base camp with their supplies on October 3, at least 45 horses that had gone with them were buried by snow and killed. The rescue of the horses stranded in the base camp has not been done yet even 38 days after the tragic incident.
The 17 hinnies taken by Thamserku Trekking Company to transport goods in 8,167m high Daulagiri Mountain in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi and 28 hinnies, who went to pick up Shangrila Trekking Company's goods, died in an avalanche.
