Poudyal, Nepal’s ambassador to Pakistan is also concurrently accredited to Iraq, paid a courtesy call on the Iraqi Acting President following the credential presentation ceremony, reads a statement issued by the Nepal embassy in Islamabad. [break]
“Matters of security and welfare of Nepalese workers in Iraq and the Nepal Government’s request for amnesty to the three Nepalese nationals who are in Iraqi jail were discussed during the meeting,” reads the statement.

While receiving the ambassador, Acting President Al-Khuzai underlined the bilateral relations between the two countries. According to the statement, the Acting President asked the ambassador on potentialities of opening Nepal’s embassy in Baghdad in the context of considerable number of Nepalese nationals engaged in employment there.
Earlier on Wenesday, ambassador Paudyal presented copy of the credentials to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zibari. Following the ceremony, the ambassador held a meeting with the minister. “Matters related to the welfare of Nepalese workers in Iraq as well as Nepal’s request for the special amnesty to three Nepalese nationals were discussed,” the statement further says.
Similarly, the ambassador held a meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of Iraq, Hamid K. Ahmed. During the meeting, the duo had discussed on the case of special amnesty to the three Nepalese nationals.
Ambassador Paudyal also held series of meetings with the Nepalese community in Baghdad, Erbil and Kurdistan.
