KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Newly-appointed British Ambassador to Nepal Nicola Kathryn Pollit submitted her credential to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday. She is the first female ambassador of UK to Nepal since the two countries established diplomatic relations 200 years ago. Along with Ambassador Pollit, non-resident ambassadors of Lebanon, Estonia and Iraq also submitted their credentials to President Bhandari on Wednesday.

“I am extremely happy to have the opportunity to submit my credential to President Bidya Devi Bhandari. I feel proud to be the first female ambassador of UK to Nepal in our 200 years old relations,” she tweeted in Nepali after submitting her credentials. Ambassador Pollit speaks Nepali too.Ambassador Pollit is succeeding Richard Morris, who left Nepal last month.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office in May-end had announced Pollit as new UK envoy to Nepal. She has been serving as Additional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate at the FCO since 2017. She started her diplomatic career at the FCO in 2003 and served at the FCO in various capacities including as Somalia Conference Coordinator (2016-17).
