Rival party leaders engage in verbal altercation over municipality budget in Jumla Rural Municipality

JUMLA, July 17: Shanti Kumari Malla (Bhandari), the vice chairperson of Jumla's Guthichaur Rural Municipality, assaulted Dan Bahadur Budha, the chairman of the rural municipality.


Malla assaulted Buda in the meeting of the executive committee. Vice Chairperson Malla has alleged that the Chairman Buda has prepared the budget arbitrarily.

During the meeting, tensions escalated, and Vice Chairperson Malla allegedly resorted to physical violence against Chairman Buda. Both parties have presented their perspectives on the incident, with Vice Chairperson Malla admitting to the assault. She stated that her actions were a response to what she perceived as injustices in the budget, claiming she had no other recourse.


Chairman Budha, on the other hand, has filed a complaint with the District Police Office in Jumla, asserting that his rights were violated during the executive committee meeting.


Arjun Mahtara, the spokesperson for the rural municipality and ward chairman of Ward No. 1, provided details of the altercation. According to Mahtara, Vice Chairperson Malla slapped Chairman Budha twice on the cheek and even used a sandal to attack him.


DSP Prahlad Karki of the District Police Office Jumla confirmed that they have received a complaint regarding the incident and are conducting an investigation.
