KATHMANDU, March 20: The air condition in Kathmandu has become unhealthy today.
According to the Department of Environment, the Air Quality Index (AQI) at Shankha Park of Kathmandu recorded a 197 at 11:30 AM on Thursday. Similarly, the AQI measured at Ratnapark was 156, and at Khumaltar in Lalitpur, it was 153. In terms of health, Kathmandu has become unhealthy.

On Wednesday, the average AQI at those locations was measured between 110 and 140 over a 24-hour period. However, on Thursday, the AQI reached between 154 and 160 over the 24-hour period, according to the department's records. In other cities, the AQI is below 150.
An AQI between 101 to 150 is considered unhealthy for children, elderly, and people with chronic diseases. When the AQI reaches between 151 and 200, it is unhealthy for everyone. Similarly, when the AQI ranges from 201 to 300, it becomes very unhealthy, and anything above that is considered hazardous, according to the WHO guidelines.
