KATHMANDU, March 20: Lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada has expressed concern over former King Gyanendra Shah's video message on February 18, in which he referred to himself as “Shree Paanch Maharajadhiraj” and hoisted the royal insignia flag.

In Thursday's meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Khatiwada stated that the government should urge the former king to respect the constitution.

Speaking in Thursday's meeting of the House of Representatives, he raised this objection. He said that the royal insignia  was removed on May 30, 2008, and the national flag was adopted instead, emphasizing that there is no mention of Shree Paanch Maharajadhiraj in Nepal's constitution.

He also urged the government to clarify who will respect the constitution and who will not.

“This royal insignia was removed on May 30, 2008, and the national flag was adopted instead. There is no mention of Shree Paanch Maharajadhiraj anywhere in Nepal's constitution. Therefore, I strongly object to such messages referring to Shree Paanch Maharajadhiraj and the display of the royal insignia flag. I urge the government not to allow such actions and to respect the constitution,” he said.

MP Khatiwada also urged the government to pay attention to actions that go against the constitution.
