A well-balanced education

At a time when we’re talking about education, there are two kinds of approaches have been followed in a very first from the beginning, namely teacher-centric and student-centric approach. Well, in a teacher-centric approach, students can put all of their focuses on their teachers. In this first case, teachers talk to more. And, the students keep and quietly listen to more. To be honest, students work alone, and collaboration is discouraged too.

On the other hand, when a classroom starts with student-centric learning approach, where students, as well as teachers, interact equally. Instead of, listening to the teachers exclusively only. All in all, group work is encouraged, assigned and students learn to something worthwhile – via communicating with one another.

As far as the education sector is concerned, sustainability, diversity, and innovation are the keywords today. The term 21st-century skill is referred to the certain core competencies such as collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking and problem-solving which strongly navigates that schools need to teach to help students thrive in today’s competitive world. However, it is painful to say that the same kind of so-called ‘parrot rot’ teaching is being practiced rather than an application-based education.

Of course, at schools, students should not only learn these three Rs: like reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also should learn three Cs: creativity, communication, and collaboration when it comes to nurturing in such skills in their lives. The World Development Report (WDR) 2018 shows that many children around the world are leaving schools unequipped with even foundational literacy and numeracy skills. This needs to be changed.

Besides that, learning and innovation skills increasingly are being recognized as the skills that separate students who are prepared for increasingly complex lives and work environments in the 21st century. First and foremost, most importantly, a focus on creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, are essential to prepare outstanding students for the future.

Today, we live in a technology-savvy world in terms of access to an abundance of information, rapid changes in technology tools. Therefore, to be effective in the 21st century, students must be able to create, evaluate, and effectively utilize information at par levels. As a result, they will contribute their knowledge, skills, ideas, experiences, and abilities for the betterment of society and the world.

In most cases, it is best for teachers should use a combination of approaches to ensure that all student needs are fulfilled. Needless to say, teachers know the classroom environment much better than anyone else so the teachers should decide what works best for their students.

Above all though, the irony is that who cares in this regard? Hence, let us we should create a well-balanced education atmosphere rather than operating with money-minded attitudes.
