KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) issued work permits to 84,226 people in the Nepali month of Mangshir (mid-November to mid-December) this year.
This is a record-high number of Nepalis receiving approval for employment abroad in a single month. Earlier, 78,370 individuals received approval as migrant workers during mid-October and mid-November of the fiscal year 2022/23.

In the review month this year, the DoFE issued new foreign employment approvals to 28,868 individuals. Similarly, 41,320 individuals had renewal of their work permits from the government authority, 13,059 converted personal visas into working visas and 979 individuals got approvals for foreign employment under G2G agreements.
Most of the migrant workers were bound for employment in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. According to the DoFE, it issued work permits for 325,809 migrant workers in the first five months of the current FY.
