The defeat leaft Nepal at fifth position with three points from four matches played in Group A. Ireland leads the standings with six points from equal number of matches. Papua New Guinea (5), Namibia (3) and Hong Kong (3) are second to fourth with a match advantage over Nepal. Teams finishing on top four positions at the end of group stage will be only eligible to fight for a spot in the World Cup finals to be held next year in India.
Hong Kong chased the target of 110 runs losing five wickets with five balls to spare to hand Nepal second defeat in a row, despite Basant Regmi's four-wicket haul.
Nepal's top order batting once again flopped against Asian rival Hong Kong as it was bowled out for 109 run in 20 overs.
Nepal lost five early wickets within 9.5 overs with only 31 runs on the board. Departure of Subash Khakurel (2 off 3), Gyanendra Malla (0), skipper Paras Khadka (1 off 11), Sagar Pun (11 off 12) and Basant Regmi (11 off 19) under 10 overs kept Nepal under threat of scoring its lowest total in the shortest format. Nepal had scored 53 runs against Ireland in its third match.
However, Rajesh Pulami (25 off 34) and Sharad Vesawkar (27 off 24) shared a 41-run stand for the sixth wicket to anchor Nepali innings. Rajesh smashed two sixes, while Sharad hit a six and two fours.
Sharad was also part of a 24-run partnership with Sompal Kami (16 off 12) for the eighth wicket. Sompal cracked a six. Shakti Gauchan (2 off 3) was last batsman to be run-out.
Haseeb Amjad bagged four wickets giving away only 14 runs in his four-over spell to restrict Nepal on low total, while Irfan Ahmed claimed two wickets.
Nizakat Khan scored 25 runs facing only 18 balls and Aizaz Khan remained not out on 14 runs off seven balls to ensure Hong Kong's victory.
Anshuman Rath (19) and Babar Hayat (17) also contributed major runs for Hong Kong.
Basant bagged four wickets giving away only 16 runs in his four-over spell, while Sompal bagged one wicket.
