The septuagenarian said he has a wish to see the road in his village for which he decided to go on strike. According to Singh, there had been a survey earlier for expansion of road network from Gurukhola area to Khal area but the roads were constructed in other places except his village.

"I decided to hold fast onto death after I heard the budget allocated for road was going to be allocated somewhere else," Singh said.

Dasharathchand municipality – 1 Ward Chairman, Bhuvan Prasad Bhatta, said Rs 1.45 million has been allocated for construction of the road from Gurukhola to Khal but the work could not be undertaken following locals' refusal to hand over their land properties.

"We will start the construction of the road once the land property owners agree on giving us their land for road," Bhatta said. Singh has however vowed to continue the strike until the road construction starts. RSS
