JHAPA, Dec 10: An elderly woman was raped and strangled to death at Mechinagar Municipality-13 in Jhapa district.
Bishal Birja, 35, of Bhadrapur Municipality-4 confessed to the police that he on Wednesday night lured and raped the woman identified as Maina Hasda, 70, of Arjundhara Municipality-11 before strangling her to death.

Birja now is in police custody. Birja himself informed the police that there was the body of the woman in a culvert before the Pathivara Temple at Charaali, said Rakesh Thapa, information officer at the District Police Office. Upon suspicion, the police launched an investigation into the incident and arrested Birja. Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
