District Police Office informed that the process of recording statements from the arrested staffers has already started. Police detained the land revenue staff after Resham Chaudhari, to whose name Bhandari´s land was transferred, conceded bribing the land revenue officials handsomely to illegally transfer the land ownership.
Acting on the basis of Chaudhari´s statement, police took gazetted officer Bharat Chandra Adhikari, non-gazetted first class officers (nayab subba) Naresh Khadka, Ganga Ram Pokhrel and Tilakraj Dhital and two non-gazetted second class (kharidar) Jaggu Prasad Subedi and Kashiram Subedi under control.
“We have taken them under control for investigations. Recording of their statements is underway,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Lokendra Malla.
Police had already arrested two scribes or junior lawyers (lekhandas) who prepare the legal documents for land transactions, in connection with the case.
“Police had taken our staffers away just for general questioning. We had expected that they would be returned shortly, but they have been kept in custody,” said Tikaram Ghimire, chief land revenue officer.
Land revenue office staff have stopped work after their colleagues were arrested. They have warned that they would not return to work until the colleagues are released.
On June 29, Shashidhar Bhandari´ family came to know that their land had been illegally transferred to Resham Chaudhari. Investigations disclosed that Chaudhari, who had been using the land on lease, had got the ownership transferred in his name on June 5. Bhandari´s land (plot no. 22) transferred illegally to Chaudhari´s ownership totalled 19 katha and 3 dhur.
