Two killed in Kalimati accident

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Two people were killed and other two seriously injured when a minibus heading for Ratnapark from Thankot met an accident near Soltimod of Kathmandu at around 5:45 am on Friday.



The deceased have been identified as Bijay Gurung, 18, of Salleri-8, Okhaldhunga, the driver´s helper, and Prakash Panta, 20, of Fujel-1, Gorkha. [break]According to inspector Tulasi Bahadur Bhattarai of Metropolitan Police Circle Kalimati, Panta breathed his last at Bir Hospital while undergoing treatment while helper Gurung had died on the spot.



The over speeding bus (Ba 3 Kha 985) lost control after it hit the road divider according to the police. However Nar Bahadur Rana, driver of the minibus who came into police contact one-and-a-half hour after the accident, claimed that the accident occurred while protecting two students who crossed the road all of a sudden.



Seriously injured Manoj KC, 40, of Naikap, Binu Pokhrel, 28, a Nepal Army staffer are undergoing treatment at Sahid Memorial Hospital and Chhauni-based army hospital, respectively.



The family members of the deceased staged demonstrations in front of the Kalimati Metropolitan Police Circle throughout the day on Thursday.
