49 microfinance victims arrested for violating prohibited zone to enter parliament released

KATHMANDU, Feb 29: The police have released microfinance victims who were arrested for entering the parliament building.


Superintendent of Police (SP) Nabaraj Adhikari of the District Police Range, Kathmandu informed Republica that the District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu ordered the police to release the 49 microfinance victims who had been arrested for entering the parliament building on Thursday evening.

Previously, the DAO had authorized the police to detain 49 individuals for 7 days after they were found guilty of offenses against public peace.


They entered the Federal Parliament Building on Monday to protest with the demand that microfinance loans should be waived. They were arrested by the police and kept under custody at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Durbar.
