RASUWA, Aug 29: At a time when several local units are facing widespread criticism for massive tax hike, Kalika Rural Municipality of Rasuwa district has taken a different approach to avoid similar pitfall. The rural municipality has decided to revise its tax rate by consulting with its residents before determining the final tax rate.
A six-member committee has been formed under the leadership the vice chairperson of the rural municipality. The other five members are ward chairpersons. “We have already initiated the process to take suggestions and opinions of the residents and set up tax in such a way that is acceptable to our residents,” said Vice Chairperson Bhavani Prasad Nepupane.
According to him, they are taking the step after residents in other places expressed outrage over the unfair tax rates.
According to the rural municipality, four out of the total five local units under its jurisdiction would be taking suggestions from the residents before determining the final tax rate.
