KATHMANDU, Feb 17: “Tyo Nepal,” a book by Dadi Sapkota and published by Jagabamba Prakashan, was launched at Alliance Française de Katmandu on Thursday.

The book, which has interviews of 29 French nationals who came to Nepal for different purposes and eventually ended up forming special bond with Nepal and the Nepali people, was unveiled by Jean Romnicianu, Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy in Kathmandu, who met most of the scholars interviewed during his tenure as a director.[break]

“The publication of this book in the Nepali language, we believe, will help disseminate the views and ideas expressed by eminent French nationals, and the interesting accounts of French-Nepal relationship to the wider Nepali public,” he shared.

Anne Lisa Heynen, Director of Alliance Française of Kathmandu; Kamal Mani Dixit, Chairperson of Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya and a senior writer in Nepali; Keshab Raj Jha, the career diplomat and former Nepali Ambassador to France; and Mr. Kanak Mani Dixit, Member Secretary of Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya and a senior editor and journalist came to the event as guests of honor.

Keshab Raj Jha summarized the book and said that it was an excellent means to share the relations between the two countries and also highlighted a few issues that were diplomatically interesting.

“Nepalis usually read works of American, British or Indian writers and seldom get an access to the work of French scholars. This book will be breaking the breach of information about French scholars who worked in Nepal,” explained Kanak Mani Dixit.
