Indra Lal Sardar, 35, a resident of Madhesa village in Sunsari district, who was working in Qatar, made a surprise return to his home Friday morning. None of Indra´s family members, even his wife Dayawati, was aware of his return in advance. [break]
Excited over her son´s surprise visit, Indra´s mother Bhuti Sardar quickly prepared lunch. Indra and Dayawati locked themselves up in a room for chit-chat after finishing their lunch. But, two hours later, Indra came out of the room and ran away. A few minutes later, when Indra´s mother entered the room, she was shocked.
"My son had kept the door shut when he left home. When I opened the door, I found my daughter-in-law brutally murdered," said a tearful Bhuti. "I had not even checked the things my son brought in the suitcases from abroad."
The 50 year old was very happy upon her son´s return. However, her euphoria did not last long. Instead, she had to witness the most tragic incident of her life. "I wish my son had died in my womb. At least, I would not have to experience such a painful tragedy," says Bhuti.
Indra, who had already worked overseas for two years, had left for Qatar only three months ago. Although he brought Dayawati home four years ago, the couple formally tied the knot only three months ago. Indra had left home the day after he solemnized his marriage with Dayawati.
Indra rarely called home in the three months after he left for overseas. He had not even sent money. However, no one recollects any unpleasant incident between Indra and his wife when they were together.
Villagers got to know the fury insidiously nursed by Indra only after the revelation of the gruesome murder. Indra had brought along a sharp knife purportedly to kill his wife.
Villagers remember Dayawati, 32, as a beautiful and hardworking woman. "She always strived to work hard; and was very beautiful," says Laxman Shrestha, one of Indra´s neighbors.
Police have taken Dayawati´s father-in-law Surya Sardar and brother-in-law Tilak Sardar under control for investigation, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yamuna Rajak.
