The ministry selected Shyam Kakshapati, Amar Bahadur Shahi, Tikaram Sapkota, Phurba Gyalzen Sherpa and Pampha Dhamala from eight names recommended by a committee formed to select new board members.[break]
Kakshapati is the general secretary of Hotel Association of Nepal, while Sapkota is the president of Pokhara Tourism Council. Sherpa is the former vice-president of Trekking Agencies´ Association of Nepal.
“We had recommended the name of eight candidates on inclusive basis on Sunday,” Ranjan Krishna Aryal, coordinator of the selection committee, told Republica. “The governing board is holding a meeting Wednesday to form a committee for selecting new CEO of NTB.”
The NTO selection process had come to a halt after term of three members of the CEO Selection Committee expired. NTB has been without a CEO after Prachanda Man Shrestha´s term ended in Oct.
Once the committee is formed, it will conduct final interview of 12 candidates shortlisted by the previous committee.
The 11-member governing board of NTB consists of five representatives each from the government and the private sector. The CEO functions as the member-secretary in the governing board. The term of private sector representatives in the board is three years.
All five posts of private sector in the governing board were lying vacant after the term of Ganesh Simkhada, Nimi Sherpa and Agni Kandel expired about a month ago. Two other board members had tendered their resignation.
