The move was taken as per the policy of donor agencies and government to reduce the seven refugee camps located in Jhapa and Morang districts and keep only one in Beldangi. [break]
The process of shifting the refugees from Timai camp of Jhapa to Beldangi was started since November 21 and that it will be completed within the end of December, said Deputy Director of Refugee Coordination Unit and Assistance Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Yogendra Dulal.
Around half of the population has left for third countries as per the resettlement programme from the Timai Camp and the rest of the population is being shifted to Beldangi. However, some families, who desire to go for Pathari of Morang, have been shifted to Pathari camp.
Assistance CDO Dulal said the government has the plan to shift the refugees of Khudunabari camp to Beldangi within June after the process of shifting Timai camp to Beldangi was completed.
The Bhutanese refugees in Goldhap had already been shifted to Beldangi when the camp based in Goldhap was destroyed due to massive fire, two years ago. Once the camps are shifted to Beldangi, there will be four camps here.
Among the 115,000 refugees in all the seven camps in the district, almost half of the population has already been resettled in USA, Australia, Britain and other European countries.
The policy to gather the refugees in Beldangi was brought after the number of the refugees were decreased when around 80 percent of the refugees expressed their desires and filled up the forms for the resettlement in the third countries.
