As the Tihar festival is approaching, the market inspection team carried out inspections at dry fruit stores around the area to check if they are overcharging.

Kamal Bahadur Thapa, market inspector at DoC, told Republica that most of the stores in Ason were selling dry fruits such as raisins and dates among others by themselves fixing the price labels and many of them were not using proper weighing equipment.

“Out of the seven stores, six stores were not using proper weighing machines and some did not maintain their bill books. The stores were selling dry fruits packets which did not have price mentioned on them,” Thapa said.

The team confiscated fake bills from three stores and asked the shop owners to present themselves before the department within three days with necessary details.

Likewise, a separate inspection conducted by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) and consumer right organizations at Banglamukhi Dairy in Thankot destroyed 51 packets of unlabelled milk.

“The dairy was unclean and was not mentioning manufacturing and expiry dates on milk packets,” Pramod Koirala, spokesperson of DFTQC, said.

According to Koirala, since there was no any serious problem at the dairy, the team instructed it to maintain hygiene and cleanliness within 15 days.
