The highest number of climbers have received climbing permits to climb Mt Manaslu (8,163 meters) in the fall season this year. According to the Department of Tourism, a total of 301 climbers, including 65 women from 26 climbing groups, have received permits for climbing Manaslu this season.
Rakesh Gurung, director of the department, said that a significant number of climbers have arrived to climb Manaslu and climbing activity has started since Sunday, September 17. Director Gurung also mentioned that a team led by record-breaking climber Nirmal Purja successfully ascended Manaslu on Sunday, marking the season's inaugural ascent. Three additional teams have subsequently completed their ascents, with many climbers currently en route to the summit. The department continues to issue climbing permits.
Mount Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world, is particularly popular for autumn ascents. Each year, a substantial number of climbers choose this season for their Manaslu expedition.
On May 9, 1956, Japanese citizen Toshio Imanishi and Nepali Galgen Norbu Sherpa made history with the first successful ascent of the 8,163-meter high Manaslu. Two days later, on May 11, Japanese climbers Norbu Higeta and Kiichiro Kato also achieved this feat. Swiss nationals Anse Rage and Ritz Lucchisinger climbed Manaslu on May 18, 1956.
