Nepal on track to meet NTY 2011 target

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Good news for Nepalis celebrating Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011. Around 700,000 tourists visited Nepal within the last seven months. If the arrival continues in the same pace, the likelihood of meeting the target is very high.



Organizing a press meet on Monday, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) informed that Around 700,000 tourists arrived in Nepal in the last seven-month period, a sign that Nepal is on track to the target of bringing one million tourists in 2011. [break]



NTB expressed hope that one million tourists will visit Nepal by this year-end.



It was informed in the press meet that creation of a nationwide wave of tourism promotion, publicity in the international level and full cooperation from the government side were the achievements.



Since the NTY 2011 declaration, Nepal took part in 25 international tourism fairs—seven in Europe, two in America, six in India and 10 in Asia—to promote tourism, NTB said. It informed that tourism programms were held in several countries with the support of Nepal’s diplomatic missions, adding that 107 foreign journalists were brought in Nepal.



On the occasion, it was also informed that out of Rs 130 million announced in this year’s budget, Rs 30 million will be spent on promotional activities in China, Rs 60 million in India and the remaining Rs 40 million in other countries, including advertising in CNN and BBC.
