At the meeting, Senior Vice-chairman Baidya and Vice-chairman Bhattarai are trying to convince Shrestha to support their alliance against party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, according to sources.[break]
If Shrestha supports the alliance, Dahal will be in clear minority at the party´s Central Committee meeting to be held later in the day.
Baidya and Bhattarai have forged the alliance, saying they wanted to “democratize the party and end Dahal’s monopoly” in the party.
The party has called a meeting of its Standing Committee at 11 a.m. on Wednesday to finalize the agenda for the Central Committee meeting.
Dahal is likely to table a political document at the meeting outlining his strategy on the peace process.
But the leaders of the Baidya-Bhattarai alliance have stated that they would block the discussion on his document ,prior to settling contentious issues of power-sharing and work-division in the party.
