“We are facilitating the International Youth Speak Out’s project on advocacy on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS which has been launched in many countries,” said Ajay Kumar Uprety, Program Officer at Yuwa, adding, “This program is basically focused on how we can make youth voices on reproductive health heard at the policy-making level.”

The council will consist of 10 young members between the ages of 16 and 24 who will serve as youth educators, advocates and spokespersons on the issue of adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

“They will perform mainly three tasks -- provide awareness to students, advocate on the reproductive health rights and make efforts for international solidarity,” Uprety further informed.

The council members will work as per the combined direction of International Youth Speak Out (IYSO) project of Advocates for Youth and YUWA.

The council members will organize events, utilize media outlets, develop educational workshops and lobby policy makers at the national and international level on the importance of responding to national & global HIV/AIDS and supporting national and international family planning.

The council members will meet monthly at Yuwa’s office and two selected members will get the opportunity to participate in ‘One World Young Summit’ in March in Washington and other two members will get the opportunity to attend annual Urban Retreat in September in Washington.

The organizers have called for application for YALC from youth ranging in age from 16 to 24 for which the deadline is February 8.The selection will be made on the basis of written application and performance on orientation.
