Golden Gate, National in quarterfinals

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Defending champions Golden Gate and National Campus secured quarterfinal berths under boys´ section on Sunday in the Eighth Prime Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament.



Golden Gate humiliated Pyramid 44-22 in a game played on the Kirtipur court on Sunday. [break]



Holders Golden Gate took lead in all four quarters--5-2, 15-5, 8-7, 16-8. Nawaraj Dahal topscored with 20 points for Golden Gate. Golden Gate will now meet Whitehouse in the quarterfinal.



National thrashed Bernhardt 73-30. National dominated the match from the beginning and were ahead in all quarters 17-8, 22-3, 17-10, 17-9. Manish Tamang netted 12 points for the triumphant side. National will lock their horns agaisnt Ace in the quarterfinal.



Likewise, Lincoln had a narrow 62-52 win over Rato Bangala riding on 21 points of Roshan. Lincoln led the first and last quarter 18-10, 19-11 which paved the way for their victory despite going down in the second and third quarter 10-14, 15-17.



Under girls´ section, defending champions Whitehouse and Golden Gate emerged victorious. Whitehouse outclassed Rato Bangala 46-19 riding on 15 points of Mrinalini Shrestha. Whitehouse took control of the match from the very beginning and led initial three quarters 9-0, 13-4, 15-6, and the fourth quarter ended in a 9-9 tie.



Golden Gate had a hard fought 30-29 win over NAS. Golden Gate bounced back in the last two quarters 10-2, 9-7 after going down 5-9, 6-11 in the initial two quarters. Maya Syangden contributed 16 points for Golden Gate.
