The prize, established in 2008, recognises innovative solutions in sustainability across health, food, energy, water, climate action, and education. Build Up Nepal was honoured for its low-carbon, earthquake-resilient eco-bricks, which have produced 3.3 million bricks, built over 12,000 resilient homes, created 2,000 green jobs, and cut 110,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The initiative has made a significant impact in earthquake-prone areas such as Jajarkot and West Rukum.
The award underscores Nepal’s growing contribution to global sustainability and the power of locally driven innovations to address climate change and disaster resilience. The prize was received by Managing Director Bjorn Soderberg, with Nepal’s Ambassador to the UAE, Tej Bahadur Chhetri, also attending the ceremony.
