Rating chess from Thursday
The First National Youth of Nation Rating Chess Tournament is all set to kick off on Thursday at Khwapring English Academy, Bhaktapur. The tournament being organized by Friends of Nation Club and Innovative Youth Awareness Society will be held until the 10th round in the Swiss League format.
"The main aim of organizing this tournament is to produce more rated players in the country as there are only 147 rated players so far," said Binod Prajapati, the coordinator of the main organizing committee. The organizers have expected participation of 120 players in the tournament. Players from 16 districts have confirmed participation, and 90 have already registered.
The tournament, which is expected to cost Rs 338,000, carries a cash prize of Rs 61,000.
Khadka, Thagunna in final
The pairs of Rajendra Khadka and Kanchan Singh Thagunna and Dipak Regmi and Prakash Rai made it to the final of men´s doubles in the Panchakumari Badminton Tournament on Tuesday. Thagunna and Khadka ousted the pair of Semanta Lamichhane and Yogendra Khadka 3-15,15-13, 15-9. Likewise, Regmi and Rai defeated Siddhartha Sharma and Lochan Dahal´s pair 15-6, 15-10. Meanwhile, Lamichhane and Khadka clinched the third position after receiving a walkover from the Sharma-Dahal duo.
