KATHMANDU, March 31: The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has provided scholarships to 200 Nepali students on behalf of the Government of India.
Minister for Health and Population Ramjanam Chaudhary and Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae presented the certificates of merit to Nepali recipients of the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme at a function organized in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The Indian government launched the scheme in 2002 to commemorate 50 years of economic cooperation between Nepal and India. Initially, 50 Nepali students undertaking different undergraduate courses in Nepal were awarded the scholarship.
"In the year 2007, the number of scholarships was increased to 100, and since the year 2012, it has been doubled to 200," read a statement issued by the embassy on Thursday.
Also the monthly stipend was increased from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 4000 for M.B.B.S. and B.E. courses and from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000 for other courses, including B.Sc., B.A., B.B.S. etc, it said.
"Over the years, India-Nepal cooperation has made major contributions towards human resource development in Nepal. Government of India extends over 3,000 scholarships to Nepalese citizens through the Embassy of India in Nepal," it said. Addressing the function, Minister Chaudhary thanked the Indian government for supporting Nepali students in their bid to receiving quality education.
"Development has always remained the core objective of Indian support to Nepal and advanced education is a solid foundation for the development any country," said envoy Rae.
