Salyan DSP Keshar Neupane confirmed that initial investigations suggest that the girls were murdered. The mother has reportedly confessed to the crime. During initial inquiry, Purnima admitted to killing her daughters by tying a shawl to the wall of the house and hanging them from both sides.

Although neighbors, including the sister-in-law, were initially told that the children were sick, the investigation began after the incident was reported to the police.

Purnima, just 17 years old, married Tekman Rana when she was 14. DSP Neupane said that Tekman, a laborer in Nuwakot, was returning home after hearing about the murder of his daughters. A postmortem will be conducted once the police receive his complaint.
