UNMIN demands action against Rai

KATHMANDU, April 28: Confirming that Maoist army platoon commander Santosh Rai from Main Cantonment 2 in Sindhuli was arrested by the police in possession with a hand grenade while traveling on a public vehicle on April 27, UNMIN has called for disciplinary action against Rai.



In a statement issued Wednesday, UNMIN condemned the "reckless risk to life" and has called on the UCPN-Maoist to cooperate fully in investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action against Rai.



Holding and carrying arms in violation of the law is legally punishable and a breach of the Agreement on the Monitoring of the Management of Arms and Armies (AMMAA), the statement added.



UNMIN called on UCPN-Maoist and all parties to adhere strictly to the peace agreements and refrain from any provocative statements or actions.
