Danabari tense over police, locals clash

ILAM, March 24: Danabari, the southern part of Ilam district remained tense on Wednesday after the police and locals engaged in a clash over the dispute of Shukrabare Haat that was surfaced on Tuesday.



After the clash, the irate locals burnt tyres and they have blocked the vehicular movement by felling down the trees. Over a dozen persons including eight policemen have been injured in the clash.



According to the district police office, locals attacked the police beat based in Danabari- 1 over the issue. Police also fired in air and opened some cells of tear gas to take the situation under control.



Police arrested the secondary school teacher Chhabi Lal Acharya, local health worker Tara Phuyal and trader Dinesh Shah during the arrack.



Efforts are underway to settle the dispute through the consensus among local political parties, intellectuals, locals and police, said the police.
