Gopal Chhantyal of Damek-9 has pledged the sum as compensation to the youths.[break]
Chhantyal, who had taken Rs 100,000 from each of the youths, has signed a document in the presence of the police pledging to return the money.
Chhantyal had sent the 17 to Malaysia promising each a 1,200 Ringgit job at a Panasonic plant there.
However, the youths were told that they would get only half the salary after they reached there. The company fired the youths when they protested. The 17 youths are still stranded in Malaysia.
Chhantyal has submitted his property ownership certificates to assure the youths´ family members that he is ready to pay them compensation.
“I had sent them to Malaysia hoping that I would also make some money,” Chhantyal said. “My friends in Malaysia duped me. I will have to sell my house to pay compensation,” he added.
