But his dream hasn´t materialized yet, while the loan´s interest is piling up. A manpower agent has made away with the Rs 450,000 that he took from the bank and has made it impossible for him to have a moment of peace. [break]
A manpower agent in Kathmandu has plundered over four million rupees from five youths in Morang, including Karki, promising them jobs in Russia. The whereabouts of Tirtha Regmi, operator of Samriddhi Employment Manpower Company located at Gairidhara, however, remains unknown. Regmi hails from Sankhusabha.
“The only way I can pay the interest is to take more loans,” said Karki, who wonders whether he will be able to pay the loan.
Regmi took money from eight youths promising them jobs in Russia. He took between Rs 450,000 and Rs 500,000 from each youth and then disappeared, the victims said. Only two of them -- Tanka Khanal of Bahuni and Keshav Khadka of Hasandaha -- made it to Russia.
Among those duped are Karki, Kedar Bhandari, Amar Khatri, Pushparaj Bhattarai and Bhakta Poudel. All of them took loans to pay the manpower agent.
“I took loan hoping to earn money abroad,” said Khatri, adding, “I neither got a job, nor got back my money.”
No one answers phones at Regmi´s manpower agency. The rumor that the agency is no longer in operation has worried the youths. “We would be happy to get just the principal back,” Khatri said. “Lenders are about to auction our land and houses,” he added.
The youths, however, have not lodged a police complaint. Inspector Shymasaru Magar of Area Police Office, Urlabari, said Regmi can be arrested if a complaint is lodged. He also said that there is information Regmi is still in Kathmandu.
