KATHMANDU, March 11: Top leaders of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have reached the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar to hold discussions with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli about the formation of coalition government.

Top brass of the JSP are scheduled to meet PM Oli and discuss the developing politics and new coalition government formation. This comes in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict that invalidated the unification between the erstwhile CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) putting Prime Minister Oli in minority.

The CPN-UML led by Prime Minister Oli only has 121 members in the parliament. As he requires to garner support of at least 16 lawmakers in the 275-member parliament to save his government, Prime Minister Oli has lately stepped up negotiation with JSP.

Top leaders including party’s Federal Council Chairman Baburam Bhattarai, Chairmen duo Mahantha Thakur and Upendra Yadav and senior leaders Rajendra Mahato and Ashok Rai reached the PM's residence days after Thakur held preliminary discussion with Oli about their possible alliance in the formation of new government.

JSP has assigned five top leaders of the party to hold discussions with other political parties about the formation of a new government as the apex court verdict invalidated the existence of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). None of the political parties represented in the parliament now do not have requisite majority seats with the formal split of NCP into UML and Maoist Center.
