Know MoreKATHMANDU, July 15: A writ petition has been filed with the Supreme Court of Nepal challenging the recent appointment of KP Sharma Oli, Chair of the CPN-UML, as the new prime minister.
The petitioners, Khagendra Chapagain, Shailendra Gupta, and Deepak Adhikari, filed the writ on Monday, seeking to annul Oli’s appointment and calling for a new prime minister to be appointed in accordance with Article 76 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal.
President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the prime minister on July 14 under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution. The petition names the Office of the President, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Parliament Secretariat, and the House of Representatives as defendants.
