Working journalist's new wage featured on gazette

KATHMANDU, July 13: The government on Tuesday has published a notice in the Nepal Gazette regarding the increment on the wage of working journalist.

Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai said that the minimum wage fixed for working journalists would come to effect from coming July 16.

A Cabinet meeting on May 5 had determined a minimum monthly wage of Rs 19,500 for working journalist and Rs 14,400 for employees and workers serving with national media house while it is Rs 14,400 for working journalist and Rs 12,500 for other employees and workers of other media houses.

The government had taken the decision on the recommendations of the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee formed under the Working Journalist Act-2051 (First Amendment 2064 BS) in regard to the professional safety of working journalists and workers.
Secretary at Ministry of Information and Communications Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya said the government's decision published in the national gazette would come to effect from July 16. RSS
