Training on successful management of community radio

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Two-day training on sustainable development and successful management of community radio began here today.

Representatives from 25 community radio stations across the country are taking part in the training organized jointly by Association of Community Radio Broadcasters and BBC Media Action.

Chief of BBC Nepali Service Rabindra Mishra and media experts Raj Kumar Bhattarai and Madhu Acharya are the trainers for the program.

At the inaugural session of the training, ACORAB Chairperson Mohan Chapagain said the policy recognition by the state 19 years after the beginning of community radio in the country has added responsibilities to the community radio.

The National Mass Media Policy 2073 has provided legal recognition to community radios in the country. There are around 400 community radio stations that have received operation license from the Ministry of Information and Communications, with 300 of them under operation at present.

After the establishment of 'Radio Nepal' in 2007 B.S., Radio Sagarmatha was the first community radio station to come into operation in the whole of South Asia in 2054 B.S. RSS
