Tara Air starts cleaning in Everest region

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Tara Air, in collaboration with Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), started a waste management program in the Everest region on Monday.

SPCC aims to collect around 12 tons of garbage annually for disposal. SPCC has already collected around 2.6 tons of garbage from three VDCs -- including Chaurikharka, Namche and Khumjung of Sagarmatha National Park and Buffer Zone, Yeti Airlines Domestic Pvt Ltd, the parent company of Tara Air, said in a press statement.

In 2008, Tara Air collected around 17 tons of empty bottles from Lukla, in collaboration with SPCC and The Himalaya Club, Lukla, it said.

Signing the statement, Saral S J B Rana, Deputy Director-Sales and Marketing of Yeti Airlines, said the airline was hopeful the campaign would create awareness amongst both tourists and locals.

Yeti Airlines also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SPCC on June 29 regarding waste management solutions, it said.
