Speaker Ghimire’s ruling to govt to address queries on Balkumari incident

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Speaker Devraj Ghimire made a ruling to the government urging it to respond to the inquiries raised regarding the Balkumari incident during the parliamentary session.

Opposition parties disrupted Thursday’s parliamentary proceedings, demanding the resignation of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, whom they hold accountable for the incident.

Although the government-formed investigation committee has attributed responsibility to Minister Jwala, no official action has been taken thus far.

In a previous parliamentary session, the CPN-UML, the main opposition party, called for Minister Jwala’s resignation and urged the government to impose stringent measures against those found guilty.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, addressing the lawmakers’ concerns, pledged to take appropriate measures, yet concrete actions have yet to materialize.

As parliament convenes at the federal parliament building in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, the spotlight remains on the government’s response to the demands for accountability in the aftermath of the Balkumari incident.
