SC upholds administration’s decision not to register petition against TJ bill

KATHMANDU, AUG 23: The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld a decision of its administration not to register a writ petition regarding the Bill to amend Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Third Amendment) Act, 2081. 

The writ petition demanding the bill be halted was not registered by the SC administration. A single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal upheld the dismissal of the writ petition by the SC administration.

Advocate Dr Gyan Basnet and Shyam Krishna Maskey attempted to register the petition against the transitional justice (TJ) Bill. The SC administration dismissed the petition stating that the bill is not fit for hearing as it was under the drafting process.

The TJ bill, which was passed by a majority of the House of Representatives (HoR), has also been endorsed by the National Assembly, the upper house of parliament.
