Know MoreKATHMANDU, May 28: A special program to celebrate Republic Day was organized at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel in Kathmandu. The program was attended by distinguished personalities including President Ram Chandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha, Speaker of the House Devraj Ghimire, Chairman of the National Assembly Narayan Dahal, and others.
Various cultural performances were showcased during the program. The day commemorates the proclamation of Nepal as a federal democratic republic, marking the end of monarchy on May 28, 2008 according to the first Constituent Assembly, and the beginning of the federal democratic republican system of governance.
To mark the day, the government has declared a public holiday today (Tuesday). This year, from May 30 to May 31, various programs including Diwali celebrations have been organized domestically and at Nepali diplomatic missions abroad to celebrate Republic Day.
