Rapid response team mobilized in Dhangadhi to contain cholera outbreak

SUDURPASCHIM, July 27: A rapid response team has been mobilized at Dhangadhi sub-metropolis-1 following the detection of cholera cases.

The presence of cholera bacteria has been confirmed in two local women, prompting the District Health Office to send a rapid response team to the area, according to Office Chief, Ashutosh Shrestha. They have been admitted to the Seti Provincial Hospital.

Two male children have been suspected to have been affected by cholera at ward-1. However, confirmation is awaited.

The squad has already started collecting samples of drinking water in the affected side, carrying out responsive efforts.

Shrestha said the Nepal Water Supply, Water Supply Division Office and office under the federal water projects have been urged in writing to ensure the purification of water before it is distributed.

It is said intake of contaminated water and food is the source of the bacteria spread. Health professions have urged the public to avoid such water and food.

The outbreak is believed to have been caused after a water pipe in the locality broke during road construction works, thereby getting affected by the sewage system.
