President Paudel visits research centers in Germany

KATHMANDU, June 17: President Ram Chandra Paudel visited the institutes that are conducting research and innovation on climate change, science and technology in Germany on Sunday.

The scientists in the research centers shared information to the President and the entourage about the impacts of climate change. In response, the President viewed that scientists could not only conduct research but also suggest measures for solving the pressing problem of the planet- climate change.

"You have made huge progress in research. Now, you can furnish suggestions on how climate change impacts could be mitigated effectively," President Paudel said before the climate scientists.  

President's Press Advisor Kiran Pokhrel informed that President Paudel sought suggestions from the scientists while informing them about the harsh impacts of climate change Nepal is facing like snow-clad mountains going bare with global warming.

The officials and researchers from German Centre for Geosciences, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and the Nepali Research Institute for Sustainability made aware the visiting dignitary on various dimensions of climate change and scientific issues.   

President Paudel reached Germany on Saturday night after completing the visit to Switzerland.

Similarly, the President visited the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. He learnt about research done on various aspects of geosciences.

The visitors were informed that the scientists at Potsdam GFZ were also conducting research on earthquake monitoring in the sensitive Himalayan region of Nepal since 2015.
